Dear Uri,
On behalf of CWAC I write to thank you very much for supporting the children
of our charity by taking part in the recent LWT televised series of `I'm A Celebrity
- Get me out of Here'.' You will be delighted to hear that you raised the wonderful
figure of £ 19,500.
CWAC exists to help the youngest of those affected and infected by
HIV and AIDS by providing practical support to lend their lives a better quality
and a future without prejudice.
Half of the funds will be allocated towards our Hardship Fund for families
- a small grants scheme which was set up to help families pay for essential
goods, services and respite care breaks - the kind of things that most of us
are fortunate enough to take for granted. Its aim is to relieve some of the
financial pressure families often experience when illness and care needs of
one or more ill family member(s) affects the income of the family. Grants are
made for anything from school uniforms and winter clothes for children, to essential
household goods, fuel bills and short respite care breaks. The service is carefully
monitored and most grants receive letters or drawings of thanks back from the
children of families assisted.
The remainder of the funds will be allocated to our Transport Service
which helps children get to hospital appointments and support groups as well
as help with the transportation of medication. The service has expanded to operate
in some of the main HIV centres in the UK. Having closely monitored our scheme
for 6 years now we can see what has been achieved: hospitals have reported increased
attendance at appointments; treatments like combination therapy have been adhered
to and this is essential in the fight against HIV because missed treatment can
cause the virus to mutate, causing worse health problems.
We greatly appreciate all donations offered, as much of CWAC's work is
dependent upon such funds. Your contribution will help to ensure the maintenance
and development of CWACs much needed services. It is through committed support
of individuals such as yourselves, that the charity can address the pressing
needs of these children.
Thank you for being such an inspiration and a positive force.
